About

Inspired by the beauty of the natural world, I approach making with intuition - playful, curious, and free. The spectrum of colour in the natural world lies at the heart of my work, alongside a fascination with glaze chemistry where creativity and science meet. Colour lifts my mood, fuels my creativity and weaves its way into every part of my life.

I work from my garden studio — a space where I can connect with my creative freedom, away from the busy hustle of family life. With an enquiring, analytical mind, ceramics and glazing are the perfect match for me. I love the slow science of testing and refining surface and colour, alongside the hands-on process of making in clay, which brings me calm and joy.

I have always been a maker at heart: whether it’s making clothes, crocheting, baking cakes, or indeed any craft project. I studied art throughout my education and have always been happiest working with my hands. Over the years, I have carefully balanced the demands of family life with the grounding rhythm of making, always carving out time to keep my creativity flowing. I mostly throw forms that I want to live with - mugs, bowls, vases - everyday objects to be enjoyed and shared. I love working in small batches where each piece feels individual.

“I make with the hope that my pots bring a small spark of joy - whether that’s through a splash of colour on a rainy day or the comfort of holding something that is handmade.”

Over time, I am building my own personal palette of glazes, inspired by the surrounding world: the balance of colour in nature, the tones of the Cornish landscape, and the endless pull of the sea and sky. Glaze chemistry is a key part of the main process in ceramics and it truly captivates me - where creativity meets science, and experimentation becomes its own kind of art. This is a labour of love. It’s slow, technical and often unpredictable - bringing disappointment as well as reward. To open the kiln one day and know that each colour within is my own - created, developed and fine tuned - that’s the happy place I’m reaching for.

I surround myself with colour swatches, test tiles, and glaze samples. Little squares of possibilities that help me explore how colours work together, whether it be clashing beautifully, or smoothly in harmony. For me inspiration often begins with a glimpse of something in colour. My garden and the flowers in the changing seasons, the way the sky lightens on a rising sun and the many colours of the ocean. I’ve always been someone who sees in colour - drawn to it, soothed by it, uplifted by it.

At the centre of it all is my love of blue. The many shades of blue that shape Cornwall’s skies and seas, from the misty pale blues of the early morning to the deep stormy blues that roll in with the tides. Blue feels like home to me: calming, endless and inspiring.

Colour is memory, mood and magic. It’s the through line that connects my pots, my home, my being and the land I love. And it’s a language I am still learning - one glaze, one mix, one discovery at a time.

“Each pot begins with a lump of clay and ends up as something made to be used and loved. The greatest joy for me is knowing that something handmade and beautiful can be held, used, and cherished - a connection between maker and keeper.”
